The area around the historic bishopric town of Fulda offers a wide range of museums that you can include in your day trip. Caught in a bit of rain? Then the exhibitions, galleries and museums around Fulda are just the thing. And even if you’re travelling with children, the surrounding area offers plenty of family-friendly activities as well as museums that are great fun. Top excursions in the countryside of East Hesse

Are you more the type for an active holiday and keen to explore nature? The forests, meadows and valleys of the Rhön are popular spots for hiking, cycling and enjoying the great outdoors. The River Fulda, with its beautiful floodplains, flows through the town of the same name and offers plenty of opportunities for a lovely afternoon in the sun. Here you can go paddling, canoeing or simply lie on the bank and take a deep breath.

Outdoor activities in nature near Fulda

  • Canoe tours along the Fulda: Rent kayaks and canoes and go on an adventure trip or book a guided tour (from April to October) and let yourself drift.
  • Outdoor pool Rosenau: In the warm months there is enough space for sporty swimming, as well as for water fun or relaxation.
  • Wasserkuppe in Gersfeld (The mountain of flyers): Whether tobogganing arena, climbing forest, skiing or gliding – the activities on the Wasserkuppe leave nothing to be desired, both in summer and winter.
  • Wildpark Gersfeld: Discover the facets of the animal park with species such as ibexes, wildcats or tarpan horses on the circular trail. Especially great for kids!
  • Walking, strolling and hiking at the Rhön: Various tours, like to the Milseburg, (to the monastery Frauenberg, weg) around the castle Fasanerie or from Johannesberg to the Auen-Park show you our area. Our personal favorite area is the Hochröhner. With the bus line map you will find the right connections around Fulda.
